Part of the role of the PC technician is to be aware of the environmental factors that might affect the functioning of a computer system. One of the more important environmental factors to be aware of is power. Several power conditions can cause problems. The most common of these include.
SAG
A drop in power supply that only lasts a short period, a sag is generally the most common type or power anomaly.
BROWNOUT
A drop in supply voltage that lasts more than a few seconds.
SPIKE
A sharp and very sudden increase in line voltage that pushes the suplly above an acceptable threshold.
SURGE
A sharp and very sudden increase in line voltage that pushes the supply voltage above an acceptable threshold.
NOISE
Noise is interference can cause the supply voltage to be incosnsistent.
BLACKOUT
A blackout is a complete failure in power supply.
